Boss Multi-Effects for Lead and Gain

It’s miraculous, but many people are still using the Boss GT-8 long after its launch in 2007. For those involved with session work, this is also the case.

To get great results from the Boss GT-8, I like to think more from a standpoint of a particular lead crunch sound it does seemingly well, and less from the standpoint of it being an amp “modeler.”

For some assistance, I reached out to Jonathan Burgos, who has crafted some exceptional tones using the GT-8. According to Jonathan, the GT-8 contained analog circuitry, which produces a superior sound in comparison to popular modelers like the Axe-Fx and Headrush.

He was kind enough to share the fundamentals of his tone: The Combo Crunch preamp, along with the Natural OD pedal. He did send me a whole archive of presets too. If you’re interested, simply get in touch with me.

I’ve also read some interesting things in online discussion forums regarding the Boss GT-5, although I’ve never had the opportunity to test one myself. The GT-5 was the first release in the GT series, which preceded the GT-3. An opinion shared by many is the GT-5 is still king.

You can compare the 2 videos in this post, and decide for yourself which sounds better.
